Router bit for fourm question

Wondering what kinda bits you guys use I'm gonna get a flush trim pattern bit but can't decide wether I should have the bearing on the bottom or the top? What do you guys like

Greg, this is the one I use, but either will work. If you don't have enough router to pull the whole form width, you can use an inch deep cut bit, then lower the router bit and run on the freshly cut surface to get the bottom half inch of form too. Works just fine.

Cut close to the line wit hthe bandsaw and it works the router much less too. If the router cut doesn't clean up the saw marks, just squeeze the template up a bit on form and recut.(Be sure to do both ends if you move template...)

If I only were to buy one, I'd go with the bearing at the top for forms. But I whole-heartedly agree with Mark - buy both and you'll be thankful. I've seen several places that sell them as a set. You also don't need to get them as long that way. You can cut partway with the top bearing bit and then cut from the other side with the bottom bearing bit, using your first cut as the bearing template.

Wow guys I guess I'm pretty surprised by the response of top bearing bits I guess I though bottom bearing would give you the least likely chance of digging or gouging you forum while helping to keep you square easyer.

You have a good point there, as long as the bit is long enuff to get the whole form in one pass. I used a short bit on my first form and then lowered and cut again, so I guess I just didn't think about it anymore!! LOL

Hahaha well it works for you!!! I bought a 2" long one today but they only had bottom bearing I will buy a top bearing one to have but might give the bottom bearing a shot.

If you got the bottom bearing, give it a go since it will do the whole form, the router can still tip the other way so if ya got a big router table, that would help!

if your template is on top of your work piece,use a top bearing. if on the bottom use a bottom bearing.eather will work
