How to hold a bow for spraying?
« on: January 28, 2015, 01:46:00 AM »
As the title says how do you guys go about spraying a bow that is to have no leather handle just a bare riser?
I have been spraying just the handle, letting it dry then spraying the limbs but the finish i've been using is a bit picky! You have from when it's touch dry upto about 2 1/2 hours to recoat then it goes through a chemical process that means if you spray a new coat on it wrinkles up like you wouldn't believe! Otherwise you have to leave it for 24 hours until it has hardened fully to recoat.
So to save all this messing about I'd really like to be able to spray the whole bow in one go. However I just can't think of a way to hold it without leaving a rough spot that needs touching up afterwards?
Any ideas anyone?

I hang my bows up by one end with a bit of thin wire around nock groove, and reverse it for next coat and so on.

I've always done like Big Bob, a thin piece of wire around the string groove, and either move it a wee bit, or flip the bow end for end between sessions.

I use Thunderbird.

Same technique but with a short loop of b 50.
I hold the handle area and spray both limbs then hang and spray handle area.
