Started a 58" belly mounted limb longbow
« on: March 29, 2015, 08:54:00 PM »
Got started building the riser for the 58" belly mount bow. The riser will be 13" made of bloodwood. I made lams to beef the riser up with glass cloth and smoothon. One as an I-beam and one as a straight lam. Then I epoxied phenolic over the belly for the limb pads and additional strength. I'm tossing around different ideas for the limb mounting system on this. Once I get the limbs built I'll make a final decision on the mounting system. The limb butts will join in the middle and be shaped as part of the grip and window which should also help strengthen the riser. Once the limb mounting system is determined I'll add glass and phenolic overlays on the back of the riser.
Everything will either be black or black stained bloodwood since this will be what I use out of my popup blind.
Anyway that's the plan for now.

By the way Ralph I made a template with the material you gave me and used the sander/guide wheel and it did a great job of getting the limb pad angles correct and at a perfect 90 degree angle. It made gluing on the phenolic on the limb pads a piece of cake. Thanks again Ralph!

Looking good! Glad it is all working out, just hope you don't mess up and cut the shelf on the left side like ya do with a lot of your otherwise perfect bows

No problem Ralph I'll cut it on the right side of the riser like I like too

I'm with Jess on this one! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
