Sander motor toast FINALLY FIXED

Anyone have experience getting a Ridgid sander fixed?

Spend some of that retirement money and buy a real sander...    :)

Is this a benchtop oscillating spindle sander? I had a Craftsman and went through three motors in that thing. It just wouldn't hold up to bowmaking's demands. I gave up on it and got a cheap drill press and put a drum on it... no more issues.

My next purchase will be one of those edge sanders like Roy has.

Rigid wants $306 for a new motor...there is a 3 year Warranty.. Have you tried cleaning the dust out of the motor and switch?

I took my Ridgid sander to Home Depot and they had the motor replaced, took a couple of weeks but it was free. If you have your papers, showing when it was bought, they will fix it if the warranty time has not expired. If I remember correctly it was 3 years from date of purchase. I never registered mine but they used the date on the sales receipt.

I'm taking it apart and going to try and clean it out first so hopefully that will work. Thanks James I'll check them out too.
Roy keep it up and I'll see if I can find that can of whoop ass I had when I was young

Ben.............
There is a new sander on E** right now for $139 delivered that is missing some parts. If your warranty is out that might be an option.

I burnt my motor out grinding a lot of glass and now I use compressed air to bow out the motor after each use on glass.

Thanks for the info guys. I've looked at the tool suggestions and nice stuff just have issues with this old house' electrical systems inability to handle bigger loads. I tried cleaning out the motor but that didn't work so I'll try working through Home Depot as the sander is under warranty. Dang found a drum sander on craigs too. But just a hobby so can't justify spending the money.

I took it apart and blew it out with air and got it to run but it starts smoking so doesn't look good.

I hope it goes well at HD. I had to upgrade my electric service from 100amp up to 200amp to run my house and shop. It was not cheap but now I'm not worried about burning up the old panel..

The motor went on my Porter Cable belt/disc sander last summer when it was a little over a year old.  I'd bought the extended 2 year warranty.  Home Depot exchanged it for a brand new one, no questions asked.  My only cost was buying the extended warranty for that one.  Trying to be more gentle with this one.    :)

$306 for a new motor or $199 for a whole new sander.... I'd go with a new one if yours is out of warranty.

Well it looks like I finally got a sander that works. Haven't been brave enough to actually use it yet but it runs. It took two months to get a replacement and it came with a dead motor. Took it back and Home Depot gave me a new one. Took it home and it ran 5 seconds and died. I figured there had to be something wrong with the power in my house even though all my other tools worked fine. So I hired an electrician and he couldn't find anything wrong. I had the power company out and they couldn't find anything wrong either. Home Depot has bent over backwards to help get this fixed. I am thankful for all there help

Ben.............

I hate that you are having such a bad run of luck. That thing should have been fixed months ago, well, mine was fix with a new motor in a couple of weeks at Home Depot. Hang in there, they will get it fixed someday. If you were closer I have an extra I could loan you until yours if fixed

Thanks for the offer James. Fortunately this new one appears to be running ok. I'm just gun shy with it yet.
