New hoof rasp

My Farrier gave me a "new" used hoof rasp. one of my old ones broke in two  and the other got rusty. She gave me a Vallorbe (sp), it is out in the barn. It is Swiss made and really takes off red oak nicely. Maybe fast than my Sure Form. I would love to see what a new one would do.

I bought a brand new Bellota farrier's rasp last year and it's unreal how much wood it takes off.  Much more aggressive than the coarse side of my Shinto saw rasp.  If someone gave me a used one, though, I sure wouldn't turn it down.   :)

My single most favorite hand tool for woodworking you can take off a thin shaving or masses of material depending on how gentle/rough you are.

A couple of years ago I picked up a box of 5 new old stock, USA made Nicholson farriers rasps for $20 off of craigslist.  They are twice as thick as a regular farriers rasp.  I traded 3 away and kept 2 for myself.

I got one of Clint's farrier rasps. They are so heavy you hardly have to use any pressure to make them cut. I still use my old one on occasion but you sure can tell the difference.

I would love to see what a new one would do.

With a new Save Edge rasp,if you handle the tangs,they will cut you.You dont know youve been cut,till you see n feel the blood.
