A friend that came by also guessed ironwood, if I thought it would look anything like that knife handle I would sure use it in my next bow build for the riser.

Man ... I say you need to calculate the density, try some UV light, you could also do an extractive UV test to rule out the rosewoods. Also maybe take a good picture of well sanded end grain, that might help.

After sanding some. Stops up sandpaper fast, it's like it is impregnated with wax.

As Littleben says a density test would really help as well.
It looks like it could be Desert Ironwood to me as well.
