Helping to get another Addict.
« on: July 24, 2015, 06:10:00 AM »
Well on the RV camp ground I am at this guy wanted to make a bow. So we found a hickory sapling and cut. it has been drying for about a month. And we are working it down to a blank. Buckey’s only problem is he has no patients with this. He wants to do things now.
Heck this thing was cut just over a month ago and split. I will let him work it down a bit more with the knife heck it needs to be heated and twist take out anyway. I might build a caul also but help out.

The bow was supposed to be a pyramid but it has a bunch of knots and looks more like a very long flat bow (6’) well when we get together and work on it again I will get a few pics up. I need to get my trade and swaps bows done and this does not help but what can you do.

Well Let’s see what Bucky has been up to shall we.

Well we have some bad twist and it is bowing side to side.

Now compare the 2 pics look at how far the tip not clapped is curved out.

I owe a pic of this off the caul (in this cas a flat 2x4).  I am use to them moving a bit once you start unclamping this thing did not.

I meant to get a pic of Bucky with it off the caul.

Some twist has creeped back in but not much. He can’t believe how straight we got it.

Now for a question.
This is a sapling hickory and before the bark came off it was knot free. Well once the bark was off it looked like the back of a toad.

Well I have 3 knots like this.

They are on the belly facing out what the likely outcome?

this thing has a high crown boy let me tell you. And in the bottome pic I had removed some of the clamps off that end I ran out when we started the other side.

It sat for an hour before I did that and was cool to the touch.
