snake bow help! (first)

Hey guys, I haven't been on in forever. I have a Osage selsbow that is a real character bow. It's light weight maybe 35-40# @ 29 inches. After tiller and shooting admit 800 times it went "crack" and developed a tiny crack about 3/8 inch right dead center of the working top limb. I sanded down and went through the growth ring about an inch circle toI sand it out. Knowing I violtated the ring, I stressed it and added some super glue in the crack. Then to be extra safe I about a 2 1/8 inch sinew patch too bridge that area, then wrapped it it fine fishermen thread. And super glue that.
It does shoot again but, it seems to be making creaking sound? I cannot see any noticeable crack or anything. I am.curious if it might be the glue or thread? Any advice?

I used gorilla wood glue type 2 for sinew... Should I re tiller the outer limb as it seems to hinge there a little more? Also, how can I upload a pic to show you guys? The crack went straight up and down and all around the patch it looks super solid, I am learning still so please bear with me. Thanks in advance guys!

Did you let the patched area and area around it dry for a while before stressing it? I'm not familiar with Gorilla type 2 glue. I assume it is a water based glue. The moisture from the glue will get into the wood making it flimsy until it dries.

Well, I allowed it to dry and I put threading around it. I only made the patch about 2 and 1/8 inches or so... Shot a couple times, but once I got it to full draw I heard it crack more.. ugh, so now I am going to try and back it with some rawhide... I am almost certain that will work but now my beautiful backing I worked so hard on was in vain lol I will try to get it backed with some rawhide in the next day or two. I will keep you guys posted! The next one is about ready for tiller and its much longer and much less character stave. Should be easy to get it to function as I need it too, so once I finish that I will let you guys know how that one comes out as well! Thanks for the advice Pat! Keep rocking guys.

Snaky staves are like lottery tickets. It's rare when you win. Anybody can make one and take pictures of it to ga-ga over. Make it an everyday shooter and problems will arise on most of them. There is a lot of torque on the outside turns of each snake. I still play with one every once in a while, but never expect a bow from it.

I've probably spent as much time hunting with snakey osage bows in the last 20 years as any other type. Love em.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th selfbows I ever made are snakey osage bows, have been on several successful hunts, and are still kickin' arrows out there. Two of them are subtle, one is extreme.

It's hard to say where those sounds are coming from. It could be the glue and fishing line talkin to ya, or it could be something more serious. It's impossible to say for sure. Keep shooting it and see what happens.
