Hmmmmm!?!? Maybe time for a new scale

Been working on my new bow here and there over the last couple of weeks. Today I got the handle roughed in and the limbs profiled and decided to put a string on her and check weight. Pulled a few times and she felt a little heavy so I hooked up my digital scale. To my surprise it only showed 54# at 28". Which is what I was hoping Id be in the neighborhood of after final finish. But still felt a little heavier than that when I drew by hand. So I ran in the house and grabbed "Hope" from this years auction. She is labeled 54# at 28". Put her on the scale and it shows 46# at 28". So if hope is showing 46 and is really 54 then that means I'm about 8# over. Which isn't a problem. I can trap and get it close after finally sanding. Now that's assuming that Hope is actually 54 (which I'm pretty sure it is) and is only showing 46 on my scale. So I can probably assume the last couple bows I made are also over weight!
I guess it's time for a new scale!!!

Test it first on a bow with a known weight.

Yes sir, that's why I checked it with Hope and not one of my other bows. Hope was made by Sarrells Archery and I'm confident it's spot on with the specs on the bow.

I check mine with a weight disc from an Olympic metric set. I use a 22#, 33#, or 44#. Just depends on how much I am willing to carry up from the basement! A recent check showed it to be .05% light.

Monterey had a good idea. So I grabbed a couple of 25# dumbels and checked them. One was 24.92 lbs and the other was 25.44 lbs. I tied them together and they was 50.34. So I guess this scale is fairly consistent. Still not sure what to think about Hope weighing in at 46# +/- a few ounces when shes labeled as 54#.

Id be willing to bet that they assume the weight per the stack up and call it a day. Ive owned many glassers that weren't even close.
I just write 50 @ 28 on all of them

Naw, I think I'll just round the edges and not trap them to hang on to a little weight. It's gotta be heavy enough to penetrate your thick skin in case we ever cross paths!
