I've been lurking the forums for a few weeks now and would like to thank everyone for the info. Quick question, I would like to cut my own laminates from a white oak and a couple elms. I have access to a sawmill and a bandsaw and a planner. How long should I let the tree dry after cutting it down before I cut small boards out of it? Or should I go ahead and cut it green then let the boards dry? Thanks for the help, any advice is greatly appreciated.

You can reduce the log a bit but I'd wait a while before cutting anything small. Your wood really needs to be seasoned to stabilize before cutting smaller, thinner pieces. IMO

The rule of thumb for air drying is one year per inch of wood thickness.
