Thunderhead 150 gr 2 blade
« on: March 06, 2008, 02:11:00 PM »
I was cleaning out a draw and found something interesting...I have a new box of Thunderhead 150 grain 2 blades from about 18 years ago.

Does anyone use these anymore or are they not recommended for traditional.  Funny thing is I used them from my compound in 1990 and my longbow is just as fast as that boat anchor was.

Just wondering if I could use these or should I stay away?

Could you post a pic? Would really like to see them.

If they are sharp and you have confidence in them I would use them. As for Trad or not I would not worry about it. Sharp broadhead and a well placed shot means a dead animal and that is what we all shoud strive to do.

The man that inspired me to shoota longbow has shot those heaads for years.  Very hard to find, no longer in production. He loves them though, says it is the only head that flies like field points from his longbow.

I don't have any photo's of the new ones since they were at my parents house and I forgot them...I'm going back in the next 10 days and will be able to get them and I'll post a picture when I get them back here.

Only concern I have is with the blades...they haven't been out of the box so I don't know if they could be dull due to oxidation/time in storage.

No they have the standard thunderhead point like the 85-125 grain heads have.

I'll post a pic when I can.

I do have a photo after all...found a practice one.  I need to look around some more.

The Thunderhead is on top and the bottom head is a 125 gr Magnus 4 blade Stinger.

Thats funny you made this post.I too was cleaning out the shop the other day and found a new box.I dont even know where they came from.We were going out on the river Beaver hunting,so i thought i would use them for that. They have worked well on the Beaver, and i shot a yote with one the other night. Not the kind of head i would normaly use,but its been fine for what ive been use'n for.

If you don't want what you have left let me know what you want for them...nothing else if there in good shape I can use them for practice.  I'm looking for blades now, they can use the blades for the 160's also so if I could find a new pack of those it would be perfect.

I think I'm going to try to thump a turkey with them this spring.

How far did the yote go after being hit with that beast of a broadhead?  Must have been a big surprise to him.

The ones I shot whistled a bit when they flew, and planed too maybe. I didn't like them ( I DO like Thunderheads, just not these )

Must be in the water. I just ran across 2 boxes of replacement blades for my old Thunderhead 160s. Problem is I can't find the heads. I had great results using them back in the mid to late 80s.

I think since my Kota likes 145 grain tips I'm going to see if I can get them to fly ok out of it.  If they do it's what I'm going to throw at turkeys this spring.
