Hello all... I guess before I get to my question I should introduce myself as I am new to this site. I have been building for roughly 4 years now, started out with self bows and gravitated to the 62" Hybrid. What started out as a neat hobby has turned into a passion. If my arrow shelf cut-out trophy count is correct, I just finished number 42 in the hybrid category. I have been scouring over your posts on here for the last month and kicking myself hard each time I read something that I learned the hard way. What a valuable tool for bowyers of all skill levels. Thank you all for that.

Ok, to my question.. I have a friend that wants a bow in the colors of his favorite college team (Oklahoma State) which are burnt orange and black. The black part is easy, but the burnt orange is not so much. I found a wood with good color called Pernambuco and was wondering if anyone had used this wood before. I do my best to steer clear of exotics as I have had some epic failures (learning the hard way) in the past. If anyone has had any experience with this stuff I would sure like to know if its suitable for a riser or if they had any issues with it?

The real Pernambuco( now almost extinct because of over exploitation) is a very tough dense wood species. It is considered the best material for stringed instrument bows.

Welcome to trad gang. Osage is yellow and some stain or scorching it with a torch would get you the burnt orange color.

Gonçalo Alves has somewhat of a burnt orange/black to it and like Roy said you could scorch some Osage

Tatajuba and Garapa also are a good yellow/orange's woods.

I have some Chakte Viga that is orange..I have had it for 4 years so it should be ready to use. what size are you looking for.

Thanks for all the help guys.That bow is beautiful Chackworth.So is that deck Elison. I really like the idea of scorching some osage too, that would put some black lines in it? Depending on how much heat i hit it with? Robert i am looking for a piece 1 1/2 x 1 3/4 x 18, anything bigger than that is no problem but those are my minimums. This is also going to be my first bow using black glass so if there are any rules of thumb or pitfalls to watch for I would sure appreciate any advice. Thanks again

I will measure the piece of Chakte Viga I have later today. I think it's 2x8x18".. I will look it over and make sure it still orange..I remember it being basketball orange. If you need a piece I can cut it for you but I would need you to pay the shipping cost

You can wipe osage with a acetone and it turns a darker orange.  Wipe it down with a water/lye mixture and it turns a burnt orange color.  Be careful with the stuff, wipe it down with acetone after to kill the lye
