Transistion .??
« on: March 15, 2016, 01:36:00 PM »
What do you guys think on a laminated bow build having 65" NTN with a 14" handle. This would be a  bow with re-flexed tips of 2".  Working limb would be increased with a shorter handle say 11"..
I know to tiller acordingly but I'am steering towards a bow having 65" NTN. My weight target around 43#.

I'm trying to visualize the reflex.  Do you mean a severe reflex of the last two inches or a gradual reflex of the full limb?

Easily doable.

Wait, what kind of construction? "laminated bow" covers a lot of ground.

I've gone more extreme than that with a bamboo backed osage core. 64" ntn, 14" handle piece glued on, mild d/r, and 70# @ 28". I make such bows trapped to the back, and fully radiused on the belly and into the dips, and handle... it flows. Flow helps 'merge' things.

Also made 'laminated bow' trilams in the shapes of hybrids and recurves over 60# @ 28" as short as 58" ntn with 9" glued on handles that encompassed the dips, flares, and handle... with no power lams.

Basically what I'm saying is, what you want to do is doable. This stuff is all relevant. Our ability to push limits isn't all about the ability of the woods, preps, glues, and such... our abilities come into play as well, and we don't know yours.

I say, push yours(you and the wood) limits accordingly.

Heck, I just realized, you didn't even mention what kind of wood you were gonna use :^)

A gradual reflex in the outer third.

Junkie with a 14" handle the working limb would be only 23-25"... 65" NTN divided by 2 would be 32 1/2" minus about 7".  so 3 1/2" for each limb giving you 25 1/2" plus a bit for the fade.
