could use some advice
« on: July 13, 2016, 02:02:00 PM »
Building a bow for a 29" draw. Right now 45lbs pulls it 20". From what I understand, that would be about 65lb at 29". The bow is 68", 1.75" wide, 7" handle with 2.5 above center and 4.5 below. 1.5" fades. What draw weight can I get away with on a 68" 1.75" wide hickory bow. I'm a little cautious after the first attempt I just did 1.5" wide, came out light at 40lbs, backed it too thick and snapped it. I'd be happy at 50-55lbs. Its for a hunter. Thanks for your help!

You should be able to make 60#. What weight are you wanting at 29"? How is the tiller?

Tiller is good. Its his first bow which leans me towards 50# at 29" but hes 26 and in shape and could handle a 55#. 60 sounded a little heavy for being new to archery I thought so for a good hunting weight that's what I was thinking.

I also recently had a 55lb bow fret on me I have to redo.that one was 1.5" wide. Feeling a little gun shy after 2 failures. Just don't want this one to fret.

Keep your tiller even and it shouldn't fret. Draw weight doesn't fret bows. Bad tiller does.
