Target bows
« on: October 15, 2016, 07:49:00 PM »
Anyone building longer bows like those typical of target shooting?

I'm finding I care more for longer bows lately.

Thinking of building something in the range of 64-66", large sight window, relatively long riser, recurve probably.

Any pics would be appreciated. Looking for some inspiration.

I'm thinking probably 1 piece, and I will probably use hickory backed Ipe if it seems reasonable. Initially thinking maybe 18"-22" fade to fade. I think I woulld need to go pretty long to get a nice open sight window.

If I can't figure it out I may just build an ILF riser and order some limbs. Obviously I could go to like 21" ILF riser since the limbs will be glass and can be a lot shorter.

Cheers

Yep I sure like a good 66" bow.  Just perfect for me and my 5'10" frame and 28" draw.
Thought most target bows were 68" and longer.?

I built my last recurve off of a binghams recurve form. Left it 66 inches long initially to test and am shooting it 45 pounds at 27 inches and it was so comfortable that I decided to not cut it down to the 62 inch length the form was made for.

I've found that longer bows shoot better. Quieter and more accurate has been my findings.

Thanks guys.

Dean , yeah most target bows are 68" and longer, as long as your 5'10" ish or taller. I'm 5'2" so a target bow for someone with my height (i.e. Children) is in the 64"-66" range, at least as if Essen recommended by height.

Willem, I will check that out.

Of course; I did not remember to take a persons height into consideration.
