Best day of the season....last night
« on: December 31, 2006, 02:28:00 PM »
As far as action for deer, last night was the best night of the season thus far for me.  Not Novemeber...late december! I had 5 bucks under 40 yards, and numerous does.  Passed up two of the bucks at less than 15 yards.  There  was a monster 5x4, in the group but he never came any closer than 36 yards.  I did salvage the day when I killed a doe at 22 yards with a Dakota recurve made by Ricky Welch.  Double lung, down and out!  We're running out of time here in Illinois!

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Mark, I killed her with a 48lb. Dakota, shooting a 540 grain axis arrow with a 125 grain eclipse broadhead.  Got a 100 grain insert in the front end of the arrow.  Normally, I like woodsmans for hunting, but with this bow being a little lower poundage, I opted for the possibility of increased penetration with a two blade head.  It worked like a charm too, since I hit just a tad more forward than I really wanted too.  Went broke the leg bone, and lodged in the offside leg, while taking out both lungs.  I'm a happy camper.

Hey guys no pics yet.  But yes, the bucks were running together in a bachelor group just like you see in the summer.  The funny thing was the big one was chasing does hard!  I guess nobody told him that November is over!  I mean he was running ragged.  Toung hanging out and everything.  I can't say I have ever seen that at this time of year.
