Turkey Hunting Advice

Hey Gang,
I am going on a Turkey hunt at the end of April in the Texas Hill Country and was looking for a bit of advice. I have never been so any advice would be welcomed. A few specific question I have are:
1. Where is the "ideal spot" to hit the bird?
2. What broadheads have ya'll found to work the best?
3. What are some good things to look for in a quality Tom?

TradAg07, any big sharp broadhead put in the right spot will work. Put it right above his hips,in his head, up his butt or break his back . Any Gobbler with Traditional gear is a trophy! I love hunting with my longbow ,but I love eating them too. So in the words of my friend Biggie Hoffman, " Turkey Hunting is a shotgun sport" . I hunt them with my longbow , but I kill them with a load of #6's from my 10ga.

In my view turkeys have no trophy value. So a "quality" tom is a jake, or yearling male, which are infinitely better eating than the big toms and "sometimes" easier to call in and kill. But like all turkeys (except the human variety), they do learn fast.

Thanks alot guys....I'm amped about this hunt and love learning as much as I can about hunting turkey...especially with my longbow!

Any turkey w/ traditional tackle is a good one.  Hit 'em high, watch 'em die.  Hit 'em low, watch 'em go.  There is soooooo much "stuff" low on the bird that won't allow for good blood trails.  In my opinion, you almost can't hit them too high.  If you miss the spine (on a broadside bird) you're not going to get anything if you are high.  The best shot is either facing you or facing straight away.  Good luck and keep us posted!

Any turkey with a bow is a trophy IMHO. They are tough to draw on, any movement will ruin a shot opportunity quickly. Make sure they are behind cover(large tree, their fan, etc.) before you attempt to draw.
