1/8" sheets of target foam ??? who sells it?
« on: March 08, 2008, 05:59:00 PM »
I have a bunch of students needing to build targets and think if I could find a source for the 1/8" sheets of foam like used in a Block target we could make our own...???  Does anyone want to let me know where I can get some of the foam?  PMs are fine if you want to keep it a secret...  :)   I'm thinking we will band it with ratcheting straps like used with a tree stand...?
thanks.

Bob, if you get an answer will you pass it on?
My son and grandson just left and we were discussing BIG targets so that the kids could step back and let some rip. The small targets I use keep them at about 8 to 10 yards in the back yard and sometimes they want to step back to where grandps shoots from.We were talking about big appliance cardboard boxes stuffed and painted to keep it cheap.

One year at the Longbow Safari-I think in Canada-the hosts had targets made of cardboard and several layers of carpets at teh practice butts.  We were using broadheads and they lasted a good long time.  i think if you got a bunch of carpet and put 6 layers and then some cardboard cut inthe shape of animals, you could shoot almost a year-move the bullseye area around the face to keep it fresh.  target points would make it last that long

If you show a sample to any commercial foam supplier they'll be able to outfit you right quick.  I'd suggest Google to find one in your area.

thanks...

I have used ceiling tiles cut into strips about 8" wide.  You just put a 2 by 6 on the top and bottom and use two long all-thread bolts to pull the boards together...causing the tiles to compress...it's pretty tuff.

Not sure but would the underlayment foam for laminate flooring work? It may be too open cell to hold up well but stacked it may work.

you should check out the American Whitetail Targets home page.  They sell range foam in bulk.  I dont know how much it costs but you can call to find out.
