Linen Backing
« on: March 12, 2017, 06:51:00 AM »
Anyone with experience backing a bow with linen? If so how did you finish it? I use it on a bow that failed during the tillering process but didn't get far enough alone to try putting a finish on the backing. The fail wasn't due at all to the backing. Appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

Thanks MM. Happy to see you were able to understand my post even with my bad grammar/typos. This time change always causes me problems.

I've done a few with linen, I just used Tru oil on them.  After the 3rd coat I sanded with fine paper and recoated several more times using steel wool between the last few coats.  You could apply a snake skin over linen, or do a custom stain job, then finish as normal.  Lots of options.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.  My linen backed bow will be ready to start tillering tomorrow and I expect in a few days to be ready to put a finish on it.
