Tiller question
« on: May 11, 2017, 04:08:00 PM »
I am in the process of finishing up a new longbow I have been working on. I needed to shed a few pounds and tried a bit of trapping. All of the threads that I read were very helpful and warned of being careful not to change tiller. Well, I changed it. It started out even. Now I have 7 1/2" on top from fadeouts and 7 3/8" on the bottom.
Which limb needs to be adjusted to get the correct tiller?
Thanks for your help

Sweet!  You have a 1/8" positive tiller.
Without knowing more information (like if its glass or all wood, if the limbs are symmetrical, etc), a lot of guys shoot for a 1/8th to 1/4" positive tiller.
Your top limb is bending more and is weaker.  You would have to take wood off of the bottom limb if you wanted to get it back to even.

If you want even tiller, you need to sand lightly on the bottom limb to match the top.

A lot of folks go with 1/8" positive which is where you are.

I would shoot it some before you change it or finish and see how it shoots , noise, handshock, etc.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Pictures and more info would be helpful. I tiller for equal limb timing and don't worry or care about what the tiller measurement is.
