Haileys 54" Hybrid finish pics added
« on: June 28, 2017, 09:47:00 PM »
Well, the bow isn't finished yet, but I couldn't wait to share. I went out on a quest to design my own 52" D/R capable of handeling a 28-29" draw length. Since my oldest daughter Hailey has a 25.5" draw length, she would make the perfect guinea pig for this project.
The form I came up with should be capable of a 52 or 54" bow. So I went with 54" for the first build for a little more power and a safer draw length. Based on how the string lays on the limb I'm gonna have to class this one as a Hybrid.

I didn't have a bunch of time to play with BH. But with the forward handle design, it seems like it is gonna end up in the 7.5-8" range. Here it is braced at 7.75". Not exactly the braced look I was hopin for, but not terrible either.

Gonna be a cool looking little bow! What's the draw weight? Looks like a lot of lams in those limbs!

It really surprised me how smooth the bow drew for its short length. It has a nice consistent 2# per inch weight gain all the way out to 30"!!!! I think the bow is capable of just a little more on the draw length but I wasn't gonna push it since it's not for me.
Hopefully I can get the final shaping and sanding done the next couple days and get the finish sprayed this weekend.
Here it is drawn to 30".

Here ya go Stic.
The riser section between the lams is 11" with a very thin 13" glass power lam.  The handle section is about 8.5".

The bow seems to be a pretty smooth shooter with decent speed. But here is the number that shocked me the most.
Pretty sure I'll be building myself a bow off this form in the future    ;)
