tiller for a string walker
« on: August 09, 2017, 09:26:00 AM »
Hi Guys, just wondering what the tiller should be on a TD Recurve for someome who shoots the string walking style? or the fixed crawl method I saw on a video called PUSH.

I've wondered that myself for a fixed crawl.  The last bow I made, I tillered even at brace.  I shoot it with a fixed crawl.  Arrow nock on the string is 5/8 above square and top of my tab is 1/2 inch below arrow. Shoot well there.

I find I can string walk as much as 1 1/4" below the arrow using 1/8" negative tiller. I still need a higher nocking point but I tune at the middle crawl of 5/8". The bow is reasonably quiet. Due to face structure I'm limited to anchoring at the corner of my mouth. A 1 1/4" crawl puts the arrow right below my eye.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

OOPS another question about the crawl style, If you shoot this style you can only shoot your bow perfectly verticle..Right? not with a cant?

Yes, you'll need a negative tiller.

I recently built a bow for a friend who shoots with a fixed crawl.  I gave it 1/4" negative tiller.  The bow kind of sucked when I shot it with split finger, but when I moved my hand down to where he puts his with his crawl, it calmed it right down.  He loves it.

Funny thing is, he's asked some professional bowyers to build him a bow with a negative tiller to accommodate his shooting style and they are reluctant to do so.
