Design revamp, laminated longbow, feedback appreciated
« on: August 12, 2017, 09:59:00 AM »
Probably should've taken some pictures but I didn't. Anywho finally got all the laminates to rough size and glued together. Originally this bow started as an American flat bow design but the belly laminate delaminated, too short of a bow for my standard riser I use. Was able to save half the wood and the riser tho so it wasn't a total waste. But this time it's back to the drawling board and i decided to go with a bend threw the handle English longbow type style bow. It's way to short to really be called an elb, This one is only 59 1/2" from tip to tip. It's pretty beefy bow, 1/8" hickory backing, ipe core tapered from 1/4" to 1/8" at the tips, 1/16" action bamboo core, and 1/4" ipe belly parallel. 1" wide at the angle pyramid tapered limbs down to 1/2" tips. Instead of my 18" riser I'm going to try a slight bend threw the handle design since I had to make the bow too short. I've heard of people heat treating the belly before tillering, anyone ever try that with ipe?
