TACKY
« on: November 14, 2017, 11:22:00 PM »
This is an osage bow I just completed. She's 65"t/t, pulls 47#@28". Tip overlays are deer antler with red paint and gold polka dots, black patent leather gator skin imprinted handle wrap with lime green serving thread stitching and colored wood beads. The decorative backing is tiger and leopard skin print tissue paper and a gold band. The string is 2 tone D-97 with florescent orange serving and orange sheep skin string silencer. She has an attached leather arrow rest with red leather strike plate.
 Pretty TACKY ain't she?     :D
I going to try to post pics. Hope it works.

Thanks guys. It was a fun project. It's been a couple of years since I've built a bow so I guess I just went crazy with the decorations. She shoots well so who cares what she looks like.    :saywhat:

I dated a gal in Jersey once who had that exact same outfit. But she had thicker "limbs"...  ;)

Good looking bend on that bow Pat .

Nice bow, I don't care what these other yahoos say. :)  Just keep the string out of the beard.   :scared:

What is your draw length?  For 66" TTT the string angle looks very low.

Haven't had a problem with my beard in the string since I gave up compounds years ago.
My draw is 26" but she is tillered out to 28. I normally build bows from 60" to 64" but wanted this one to be longer.

The tiller looks good.

Did you steam bend the tips?

Monterey, I used my heat gun and olive oil for these tips. That's how I've always done it. When I make another recurve with more radical bends I will steam it. On recurves I used a heat gun the belly cracked across grain.. I had to add super glue in the crack then glue on an underlay along the belly side of the recurve.
Mark, maybe pink ribbon wind indicator
Thanks Kenny and Mitch.
...and she shoot good too.     :D

That thang is sweet!
No offense, but I'm not concerned about the cover skins.  Your skill with tillering and bending those tips is what is impressive to me!
