1 riser 2 different limbs ?
« on: December 30, 2017, 04:07:00 PM »
I have been wanting to build a 3 piece r/d longbow for sometime now. I have had a few buddies ask about it. I would also like to put recurve limbs on the same riser. How would you all get around the difference in pad angle and such. I got some ideas but would like other options.

Use the same pad angle for both preferable the one that works best for the recurve That would have more deflex . then design your longbow limbs with enough reflex for good preload.

I built a set of ilf longbow limbs for a recurve riser I have . Had too much reflex and the vertical stability was gone pretty much.

Next one if I do again I will make a bend in the wedges to straighten the limbs up a bit for the longbow limbs.

Couldn’t you add a wedge to the bottom of the limb to correct angle? Then add a reversed wedge to the top of the limb to keep the limb bolt flush?  Just thinking out loud   :dunno:

I like what you guys are thinking. I thought about a wedge on the limb to correct it. But I like the idea of building it in the wedge. It would be nice to just build it like crooked stic said if I could get it to work.

For whatever reason, adding that much reflex didn’t work on my ilf experiment. Same basic recipe that works good on my regular td that has 12 degree , just more reflex for the 19 or whatever degree the ilf riser has.

You can grab the limb and string at one end and with almost no pressure, squeeze them together and bulge the other limb like it is at half draw!

Other than that it shot ok and all. LOL

I wonder how it would work to build some of the angle in the wedge it get it close to the 12 degrees. Then build the reflex in the limb to finish it.

I think that would work. Somebody built laminated wedges too to put some bend  in there just off the riser , basically changing the pad angle. May have been Bigfoot?

Hey Mike, look at predator bows, it is a recurve but the wedge system would work for longbow limbs if you can make it look like you want.

I have thought about doing this before and this is how I was thinking about doing. I also like how the reversed wedges look on a bow.

That probably would be the easiest. I like the reverse wedge also.
