Truing Up Thickness Sander

Truing up my thickness sander...  I was always unsatisfied with the results of my thickness sander...  One side of the lam would always be a little thicker than the other even if I flipped them on the last pass... So the last time I sanded some parallel lams I used the sled and ran it through first...  I was getting some decent results... I moved the sled over a few inches to some new paper and I was off about 5 grand from one side of the lam to the other...  Holy poo poo. !!!  !#%&%!!  I put some pencil marks on the the sled and ran it through...  I'll be damned one side of the sled was not even touched...    So last night I decided to inspect my table under the drum... What the Hell.!!!  Instead of using a solid piece of 1/2" steel it was made out of 1/8" plate with a bunch of ribs welded on the bottom...  Well you know what happens when you weld things... The metal can warp...  There was more woop-dee-doos in that table than you can count...

Today I took a piece of 1 1/4" thick Granite and bolted to the table...  I got her trued up to about a grand of an inch...  This should solve that BS...

Just a tip to the Newbies...  You are Dealing with Thousandths of and inch...  Like Pop always said, " You start out plumb and level you will end up plumb and level...  Just because something is new, looks like quality and looks like it is accurate does not mean that it is...

And just a reminder to the seasoned dust making, stick benders...  Check your tools time to time...  Things wear, and can also move...

Yeah, I'm due to check mine out real good, clean, lubricate... for peace of mind if nothing else.

Good reminder. Thanks.

Man...  I am really Stoked...  I just tested some lams and after a little bit of fine tuning I am hardly getting more than 1-2 grand variation from one end of the drum to the other end...  And the lams seem to be sliding good over the polished Granite...  At least that is for now...  Lol...  You know how something else will go out of tune...  What a Pain in the Arse it is to keep everything dialed it...  Especially when you are working with some budget tools as I am...
I have a Harbor Freight 12" disc sander...  The table on it sucks  and I gotta keep tapping on it to stay at 90*...  Next project is to make a new solid table for it set at 90*...

Yeppir, I just retuned my bandsaw, funny how things move with everything still tight!!

Today I put a new air throttle valve on my sander, made it happy again !
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Is it a Woodmaster W-1200 with rubber dust flaps?   :)
