Limb alignment issues
« on: March 18, 2018, 12:51:00 AM »
Hi guys.

All of the following is regarding FG lam hybrid longbows.

How do you get you limbs aligned and string tracking the center line?
I seem to be having trouble with it. My 3 last bows came out nice except that one limb was a bit off to the side (no twist), throwing the string off.
When I take the bow of the form I sand the slag off, find the center line with a string and 2 hanging weights, draw the width profile and gring the shape with my belt sander.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
I'd like to have some advice please.
Thanks

Hey arachnid,

This is exactly the way I do the alignment and I never had problems with it. Could you post some pics from the tip which throws off the string? Probably you should even the light off-center string position with a deeper string grove on one side?

Something that comes to mind is; is this an alignment problem or an imbalance in the core lams.  Could you have cores that are slightly thicker along one side of their length?

Are you absitively posolutely certain that the center line is straight?

Have you checked your form????? It could be warped or have a slight twist. If the last 3 bows had the same problem I would think it is the form.

Yes, the form is a major suspect.

I'll check it but I don't think it's the form. The limb is not twisted. It's as if I'm not grinding the profile straight.
I'll post some pictures later.
