Spine ?? one more time

Ok I'm still looking for a good place to start on arrows for my SA II 53# 28" draw. My look at 2219 was shot down by most, a few said it would work, but desided to try weaker spine. Some said 2018 w/125gr head but I'm looking for more total weight and head weight. So what about 2020 w/150gr-200gr cut down to 28.5" or maybe 2117 cut a little longer, but would rather go with the 2020 for toughness.

Guys say try differnt arrows but I have a problem with that because there is no place to buy aluminums around here any more, so I need to pick a size and order 1/2doz or 1 doz.

I have a 54# PSA.  A 29" 2020 with a 180 grain head bareshaft perfect for me.  But I normally use a 2018 28.5" with a 180.  It bareshafts a little weak but I like them because they shoot a little flatter.  I have shot a few deer with them and they perform very well.  If you want to buy aluminums go to 3rivers I think 1/2 dozen legacy are $33, or you can order from Blackwidow.  I think Widow is cheaper for a dozen fletched.

I'm just not understanding the super heavy arrow you want to shoot? If you get the 2018's with 125gr points you will have a great shooting arrow with more than enough weight, and it will shoot nice, and flat. Shooting the 2018 at 29" with a 125gr point will give you an arrow that weights apprx 530gr total and 10gr per pound of draw weight PERFECT! What more do you want?

I'm not worryed about shooting flat. My max yardage is under 25yrd 530gr arrow compeared to a 650gr arrow isn't going to shoot that much differnt in trajectory, if I was worryed about it I would shoot a compound not a recurve. If you like to shoot 10gpp or under arrow fine and dandy but I like to be 11-14gpp as  do alot of guys on here and I like heavy FOC to help pull that arrow through the target. And I think 2018 would shoot weak out of a  Black Widow recurve that is cut past center, even with only 125gr up front.

Well, your on your own then.  You have posted several threads here, and on the other site, and don't want to take the advise given, so just do what you want.  By the way, at 25 yards you will notice a difference between a 530 and 650 grain arrow.

I'm not going to pick a fight about this with you. But do you owne a Widow recurve? Most of the guys that have them that I have talk with say that they have to  shoot stiffer arrow then most recurves out there. And I didn't say you wouldn't see a differnce in trajectory, I said you wouldn't see that much of one. If we are talking 3-4" that isnt that much to me. And I didn't say I wasn;'t going to take people advise, but most guys out htere think 2018 is the magic arrow that will fit and thig from 49-59# draw. I have got alot of PM's that are rude saying the same thing you have said, but not as nice as you have said it. I just don't under stand why guys think that because they shoot this arrow at the same weight in there bow everyone should and if the don't there wrong.

As for the diffrence in the 2018 and he 2020 yes the 2020 is stiffer and yes thats why I was asking about it, I dont think a 2018 with 150gr to 200gr is stiff enough for what I want. I like high FOC as do alot of people, do I need it and a heavy arrow to kill a deer? NO But then again why not.

Black Widow will sell you individual tuning shafts.  Just give them a call and tell them your bow specs, and have them send you one or two shafts above and below what they would normally shoot out of that bow.  Last time I looked, the aluminum's were $6.00 each.  I think they'll cut em to the lenght you want too.  Best thing about owning a Widow, is those guys will bend over backwards to help you.

Curtis, thanks I would have never thought about that. I know 3 rivers sold tuning kits for woods but didn't know BW did that for aluminums.

No problem.  I you want to shoot a heavier shaft, just leave them a little long.  2020 are really heavy, durable arrows.  I've tuned them successfully to shoot out of 54@28 (1/8" before center) recurve.  2018's are good arrows also.  I tend to think about the overall weight, and shaft wall thickness when I choose aluminums. 2020's are 13.5 grains per inch.  2018's are 12.3 gpi, and 2117's are 12 gpi.  2219's are 13.8 gpi.

2219's are pretty stiff arrows.  They spine at 95#'s on a 26" center.  I would bet you could get a 2020 or a 2117 to shoot out of a 53@28 widow.  2020's spine 77#'s, and 2117's spine 81#'s.  Start LONG and cut em 1/4" at a time till they fly straight!

A 55# widow ( I have owned 4 of them) Will shoot a 2018 very well with a 125-160gr head depending on the shooter. A 2020 would also work but with a 160-190gr head. 2020's are very tough but they will still bend. Thats why I went to carbons. But if you like aluminum ( I think they are easier to tune) then a thick walled 2020 would be as tough as they come. You might need a little more weight up front but your Widow can shoot them, Mine could.
