Anyone used Scotchbrite pads??
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:32:00 PM »
Anyone used Scotchbrite pads for arrow finishing between coats of paint.  I know 0000 steel wool is preferred but would these scotchbrite pads work?  :)    :)

I always use the scotch pads.  They last longer than steel wool.  They also come in various grits.

I use them with gasket lacquer on every arrow I make.  I hit the shaft with 4/0 equivalent pad between either the 2nd and 3rd coats or 3rd and 4th coats.  They knock down any remnant roughness and let my final coat have a glass smooth finish.  They also work great to dull the shine if more of a matte finish is desired for hunting arrows.

I don't use anything between coats. I use Bohning products and just put them on top of the last one.I have been building arrows for 30 years and never had a problem. I might use one to take the shine off but that's it. Gary

Lots of ways to make chili.  I'm glad you like yours.  I'm perfectly happy with the way I make mine.

Hey Ryan yes,I buy them in bulk at wally world..another thought is the scotchbrite pad does not leave those gray colored marks behind like steelwool does.Steelwool will also leave a gray-ish colored dust on your new finish...bowdoc

They work great to sand between coats of finish and flex to get into tight spots.  It seems once you use them you keep finding another use for them.
