Well guys, it's been a week since my inagural post and we're back home again! No deer to show for our efforts, although we did see 4 shooters in the bunch! Just couldn't manipulate ourselves into position for a close shot. HOWEVER....we DID encounter the biggest grouse population I think I have ever witnessed! Also saw numerous flocks of turkeys....which unfortunately came in season THIS weekend! I will post some pics tommorrow showing the gang and their gear....we did our plum best to wear out a couple of bag targets that we took along....It was certainly a grand time...maybe a few other trad gangers could rent some of the adjoining cabins next year, as we are definately going to do it again. 1 million acres of  huntable state forest...and an absolutely BEAUTIFUL time of year to be there! Stay tuned for some pics.....thanx....John

I attended an all trad elk hunt this year in Colorado. This is some of the best comraderie that you can get. It is more enjoyable due to everyone understanding the reason for hunting with a stickbow. Can't wait for the pictures.

Deer hunting in Potter County's been a little bleak the last few years.  Glad to hear you guys saw some shooters.  That's good news.  Where were you guys along Kettle Creek?  Would definitely be interested in next year if y'all do it again.  That kind of trip is great fun even when all you bring back are memories.

I took a road trip up to see these guys on Tuesday after I voted. Saw the first buck standing on Rt.144 on my way up. Beautiful country.

Got up to there cabin (Kettle Creek Lodge) around 9:30 am. Jackdaw and the others were just sitting down to breakfast. We talked a while, went out and shot bow a little, then everyone went there own way.

I did not go up to hunt, just wanted to check the place out. It is nice. A huge mountain that lies directly behind the cabins,is accessible via a foot bridge. My morning goal was to get to the top of it. Before I had gotten to the base I had spotted two buck off to my left,a 4 and a 6 pt.

Kept going and going and going, lots of Beech and rock. About two thirds of the way up I started thinking about what it was going to be like getting back down. Yikes.....

Got to the flat right before the top and spotted two doe looking at me. They were not alarmed at all. They continued feeding and headed towards the top. I said a prayer and headed towards the bottom.

Two thirds of the way down I spot movement off to my left and it is a nice buck. I drop back on my butt, get the glasses on him,a very sturdy 8 pt. Nice, big, solid mountain deer.He studies me as hard as I am studying him. He finally heads down over the mountain and it was worth the trip up just to see that. Out in the Potter Co.woods for an hour,3 buck and 2 doe, what a morning.

                          Good Hunting,

That it was Scott. That many buck on a Potter Co. mountain in one morning is a good thing.

To go to these cabins...merely head due north on 44 north, right off of 220 in Jersey Shore, for 45 miles to the juncture of 44 north and 144. They are literally right at the juncture....might have to turn onto 144 toward Galeton for about 30 yards, but just watch for the sign that says susquehannock forest cabins and turn left onto the lane that services them. They are very well maintained and right in the thick of the hunting territory. I made about a 2 minute movie of the cabin and its surroundings...I'll try to post it as well. When we got there, a fellow from Vermont, staying in the very first cabin you come to,  had just harvested a nice 8 point the day before with his bow. There were also 4 different hunters from the Sunbury, Pa. area camping at ole Bull state park, just 2 miles down the road. They had been there for 5 days already.....too much fun guys.......very relaxing, Memories galore. Stay posted.....John

This was a great week! We saw bobcats, grouse, turkeys, and some deer. The cabin was well equipped, and the company was second to none. What a great group of guys.If anyone is interested in spending some time at one of these cabins or possibly doing a trad hunt next year with us,let me know.I have one cabin reserved for the first week in November 2011.If others are interested in joining us I can get another cabin. The rates were rather inexpensive. Our cost for the cabin, including food was around $175.00  per person for a week. I will send you a brochure. There are several other cabins available. If there are enough interested, we might be able to have a nice trad hunt with some other Tradgangers.

Jackdaws last remark helps me understand why he is having such a hard time posting pictures.
