a glove as thick as a tab?
« on: March 13, 2008, 05:14:00 PM »
hey all.  i have a cavileer elite cordoven tab that is extremly accurate but is slower than a glove for close fast shooting.  i have tried the 3 rivers dura  glove but it is so thin it hurts my fingers.  i am looking at the ABS glove with cordoven tips or the Am leathers elk hide.  are these thicker than the dura glove?  thanks for any help!

I use a cordovan glove made by E.W. Bateman and sold by The Nocking Point (a TG sponsor).  Works great.  The key here is you want cordovan leather.  It comes from a horses behind and VERY thick.  I've shot my current glove for two years and it's just starting to show a string groove.

I have had two of the Big Shot gloves. they are thick and comfortable, but after shooting them in, the index finger pad twists around to the top of my finger. I sent the first one back, they replaced it, and the second one is doing the same thing. Anyone else have this problem, or do I just have wierd fingers?

My favorite glove for over 70 # bows, is the standard H.H.  sold by Creig at Hill archery.

I take the nylon inserts out, that makes it really comfortable, and still has the thickness of the second layer of leather.

I am a nut case when it comes to gloves and tabs, I try 'em all.  I can't help it.

Anyway, when I was buying a new one to try from Alaska Bowhunting Supply I asked about the Cordovan Super Glove and was told that it is a VERY tough glove and that it offers a lot of protection to the fingers.  It costs a but more, but they are first rate.
One that I have tried is the Howard Hill Deluxe.  You want a thick glove?  I don't see how a glove could get thicker and stiffer than that one.  I sold it right after shooting about 5 arrows with it because I figured it would take me about 5 years to get it broken in.  I think mine had the inserts in it.  I might want to try one of them without the inserts and see how that does.

Either one of these 2 would serve you well, I think.
Good Luck in your search.

bayoulongbowman :  what size glove did you buy?
I have used a lot of damascus gloves over the years in XL size and they fit perfectly.
What size glove to you ordinarilly wear; and what kind-- ?

Have you tried the Super Archery Mitt. Fast as a glove in the field and the clean release of a tab.

Hill deluxe with inserts.  Oil the heck out of it and shoot lots.
