The Bergdahl matter

I don't know about everyone else, but this has been weighing heavy on my mind.  I am both encouraged and at the same time very troubled with the actions of others that are involved in this.
My concern is not with Bergdahl.  He did what he did  and I wasn't there to see it. Others were.
I am encouraged because the men that were there and KNOW what went on had the courage to speak out about it in the face of serious intimidation and threats from our own government.  I believe them before I would believe anything said by the politicians or the generals.  But then again, doing their duty knowing that it is going to hurt is nothing new to combat troops.
I am not sure what to think about the General that announced the charges.  You have to know that he was under intensive pressure, but why did it take so long to decide after the investigation was complete.  I will withhold an opinion on this until later.
What I find really troubling is the extent to which our own government will go to try to sell a lie to the American public. Even more troubling is that I think that they really believe that we are all stupid enough to believe whatever they say. But probably the most troubling is that so many people will actually accept the lie without question, or simply don't care enough or are too brain dead to think about it.
As far as Bergdahl himself and his actions, I suspect that us vets don't need a lawyer or politician to tell us what is right and wrong.

Leaving your post in a combat zone is deserting, plain and simple. He knew the UCMJ from boot camp. The politiains made a large mistake with this guy trying to score points with the public for buying him out of "captivity". Getting good soldiers killed trying to rescue him just adds insult to injury.

I am glad that at least one general officer had the nards to do the right thing, in spite of no doubt intense political pressure. Probably a career ender for him, judging how things work, but he should be able to look at himself in the mirror.
As for the deserter, let us hope that he gets what is coming to him and isn't pardoned.

Unfortunately, a whole lot of the voting public is every bit as dumb as the government thinks they are, or we wouldn't be in the mess that we are in, both in the legislative and executive branches.
