Hot Box: which light bulbs?

Can you use halogen puck lights or are regular incandescent light bulbs preferred?  I like to compactness of the puck lights.

What you want from light bulbs is HEAT! I used four 200 watt plain (not coated) bulbs and they worked very well. If the halogen burn cooler, they may not be the best choice.-Pup

The puck lights are handy but they do not last that long and are expensive.  I'd go with reg bulbs and adjust the wattage to get the temp your after.

I use 4 150 watt incandescent bulbs on a dimmer switch and can easily regulate my temp and get up to over 200 degrees in my hot box.  I have it lined with reflectex from Menards....

I tried the puck lights once cause I had them around, they do put out the heat but they didn't last no time at all, they are just not designed for continuous use. Incandescent bulbs are the way to go. You want to be careful with a dimmer, they aren't rated for alot of juice. A water heater thermostat works great.

I use 4 150 watt incondesant outdoor flood light type bulbs.  After 50-60 bows they haven't burned out yet.  They are on a dimmer switch.  The box is unlined and on full power I get 140 degrees which is plenty of heat.  Chad

I made my hotbox from foil backed foam insulation and use four bulbs, two 60w and two 100w, through a light dimmer and can maintain 160 degrees.  Makes a very light weight hotbox you can easily move.
