Good Morning.
« on: March 28, 2018, 09:22:56 AM »
Hey all,

New member here who is finally getting into traditional archery after compound and olympic recurve shooting for years.  I was wondering if there are any schools/workshops that you would recommend for bow building.  I live in NY and do not know of any around here, however i'm not opposed to traveling for a class.

I want to learn how to build my own bows and someday teach my son and daughter as well.  IF you know of anyone who teaches this skill please let me know.  I like to build, use and modify my equipment.

Thanks

Bret

The way I hear it is Roy will teach you everything he knows for a case of beer.  For two cases he'll provide the materials too. :)

Seriously, stick around and tell us what you want to build.  The "Bench" is a pretty good virtual classroom.  Welcome aboard.

Roy from PA.  He is our grumpy ole #*&*$#.  But don't worry, he barks a lot but doesn't bite.  At least I don't think so.  He's very knowledgable especially trilams.  Also try kennym.  Another great guy willing to help out newbies as well as a sponser that can provide you with quality materials at a fair price.

And don't go spoiling Roy with a keg.  Then the rest of us would never get anything out of him.

Like Monterey said.  Ask lots of questions.  Ive only been at this a little over a year and got 99% of my knowledge right here.

Thanks Bvas....have you made anything?  I'm hoping to build a recurve I was thinking that someone must have a school where they show you hands on and you leave with a bow you built.  I was also hoping to find out what woodworking equipment people have bc/ Im building a new 30x60 shop and will have room left over for building bows

I have built 6 D/R longbows so far.

Do a search for build alongs in this forum, and check out the main build along forum.  This will help give you an idea of what tools guys are using.

You might also check out Binghams website.  They have starter kits for beginners.

I replied to your PM with some info. The link here I also posted in the PM.

This is the place to learn. If these guys on this site can get a moron like me to build a bow that shoots , it will be a snap for them to teach anyone else..       :shaka:
