String for A&H longbow
« on: May 27, 2018, 06:34:45 PM »
Curious to hear what strings guys are shooting on there A&H longbows.
Currently I've been using the string recommended by A&H (which is performing well, but slightly loud), just wondering if there might be something better??

Also, what brace height are you guys running.

THANKS!

I shoot my 64" at 7" brace, I'm using the string from A and H and mine seems a little loud too. I'll be interested to see if you come up with something quieter

I don't have an A&H longbow. But I pretty much swear by SBD Silent But Deadly bowstrings to create the quietest shot possible.I usually get an 8 strand and set the string up with wool puffs. They have made every bow I have tried them on quieter and sweeter shooting.Pierre is the string maker and easy to work with. They are a T-Gang Sponser.Check the website and try one out!!!!Superb string builder.

I'm shooting one of my 22 strand Rampage strings on my A&H with a very small pair of rubber whiskers.  Great performance, quiet, and virtually zero stretch on the string.

“What STEELHEAD said” :goldtooth:
I put Pierre’s strings on my Northern Mist Whisper and made that already quiet bow even better. Using the musk ox wool puffs set up with the “heterodyne” placement.  The sound of my heat beat when I’m stalking a mulie is louder.

I shoot a 64" 3pc ACS 57@27.  10 strand SBD string with 1/2 a mountain muffler placed at 1/4 and 1/3. Very quiet.

I make my own from high performance material, mainly Ultra-cam, and brace at 7 1/4" on 64" bows.

If I were to purchase a string, I would go with Allen Shafer at tenrings. He shoots an A&H and I have NEVER heard a bad comment about his strings (or him). And he is a lefty! There are lots of good stringers out there but Allen would be my pick.
I had a really good group going... until I shot the second arrow.

My best bows are the ones someone else didn't want.

I make my own 12-strand padded loop strings of D-97 silenced with wooly whispers for my ACSs.  Quiet enough for me.  The carbon limbs have a slightly higher pitch to them (vis-a-vis glass), regardless of the string material used.

I have been trying to make skinny D-97 bowstrings with padded loops for a while and there is just something I don't do right (must be rocket science) so while I am learning I keep buying strings from Pierre at SBD who makes a fantastic bowstring IMHO. I shoot his 8-strand D 10 skinny strings (he pads the loops I think) on my A&H bows (and others) with wool silencers (I can make those) @ 1/4 length from bow tips with great results. They are acceptably quiet, and a bit quicker than the A&H-supplied strings which I believe are D-97 10 strand. My bows are all pretty light, hovering on either side of #40 but the performance is exceptional, and only made better by the SBD strings.

My first replacement string for my A&H I made up a padded loop 10 strand Ultra Cam and then I went with an padded loop 18 strand BCY-X.Both with homemade alpaca wool puffs. Both strings performed great and were quiet.

I too have an Allen Shafer Tenring String on my 68" 54@28" ACS 3pc bow and have never shot it without his string on it so I have no reason to put anything else on it.
