I'm in again.  Been applying every year since they started it except one.  Haven't gotten lucky yet, but always optimistic.

I just talked to Kentucky conservationist, and he said the drawing will take place on the 21st of May, and those that are drawn will receive notification by second week in June.

The disappointing news is out of 400 tags, only 40 will be nonresident, I asked how many were picked last year he said about 50, there were 5000 nonresidents that applied in 2007.

The main reason I call them was to find out what their limitations were;

No limitation on bow poundage, don't understand that one !

He said you can have up to two other people with you, but you are the only one that can hunt because you have a license.

The other two people can call, Carry meat out, search for down Elk, videotape hunt.

On one page of their Elk hunt application it says that it will cost you only $365 more, and then another page it says that all of those that are picked out of state have to purchase $130 general hunting license.  Waiting for clarification on that.

It would be fun to get drawn, but also anxious time, not knowing the area, and never had been there.  The 93% success rate, falls more to gun hunters, only 25 Elk were taken last year with bow and arrow, it would be a difficult thing to get picked, and not fill your tag, thinking that it was just a experience to do some scouting, having to wait to get drawn again, could very well be a long wait.

It would probably drive me to the over-the-counter state, that would be more productive, as far as scouting, and then been able to use that information the following year.

I pay almost $600 for a tag to hunt elk in Idaho.  Living in Indiana, I'd pay $1000 or more for a chance to hunt them in KY.  I am so itchin' to get drawn  :)   Come on folks, drawing karma, drawing karma.
Take a kid hunting!

Yes, there were Wapitis accross the whole contitnent in pre-Colombian times. The last reported kill in the Saint-Lawrence Valley was in the 1820's

I sure hope I'm one of the 40 non-residents drawn!

Good luck to all who entered.

NR tag is $130.00. NR elk permit, if drawn is $365.00.  Out of zone NR elk permit, if you want to try and find one out of the restoration zone, is $365.00.  Looks like $495.00 for a NR to hunt elk in KY.  Not bad considering the success rate.

Good Luck to all who entered.
