silk backing a kid's bow

Can I just get some silk from joanne fabrics or similar and use it?  Is there a good tutorial online that someone can direct me to?

I've heard of old solk ties being used.

I used a cotton white coton sheet and smooth on epoxy to back my son's hickory board bow.  The cotton disappears and all you see is the wood grain.
