Ipe vs Pedra

I'm trying to source ipe but the local wood shops around here don't stock it but they can get Pedra. From what the guy was telling me they are both south American hard woods with similar characteristics.  Does anyone here have experience with Pedra? Has anyone used it in a bow?  I want to build a Tri Lam and use ipe for the belly.  Is Pedra a suitable substitute for ipe?

No, I haven't used it or even seen it in hardwood stores.  My guess it that it isn't an apples to apples substitute for ipe.  I'm not saying that it won't make a bow, but there's a lot of cheaper woods that will make a bow.
It's no secret that ipe is excellent in bow applications.  I'm assuming that if pedra was as good as ipe that we would know about it.  Just my thoughts.

Where in Canada are you? I just checked my local wood supplier's website and it shows that they carry 1" and 2" ipe lumber as well as decking.
