New Longbow Form Question
« on: May 21, 2018, 11:27:13 PM »
I was hoping to get some opinions on a starting point for this design. I originally drew the limb profile up to be used with a set back handle but I decided that was going to be to big of a pain in the a** to fit the riser. I'm hoping this form will work with for a 62" and 64", the blue lines on the end are the nocks. It's a 17" riser and I'd like to make a skinny limbed bow, 1 1/4 width handle at the widest tapering to 1 3/16 or 1 1/8 towards the fades tapering to 1/2" or so at the nocks. I'm trying to get a 62" bow thats comfortable at a 30" draw. I was thinking 2 .002 tapers with .030 veneers .040 glass. Am I way off? .004 taper kinda sounds like a lot but I don't want to much pressure on the fades at my draw. I would add a tip wedge as well but I have no idea how long I'd need. Hope all that rambling didn't confuse everyone.
Thanks for any help

30" draw you may want to go 64" ntn or longer. Form looks nice

I agree on the 64" but I'm not feeling confident in suggesting a taper rate.  I'd make the tip wedges abut 4 1/2 to 5 inches from the nocks into the limbs but that's just an uneducated guess!

That form looks pretty close to one of Kenny's forms, I just built a 64 in. on his form and I'm drawing to 30 1/2 in. it feels just about perfect for longer draws I did narrow the design to 1 3/8 in wide at the fades I didn't use any tip wedges , I  agree on the 64 in. for longer draws !
