trouble staying on target pulling through cliker
« on: June 10, 2018, 07:41:12 PM »
Bow arm floats around to much while trying to pull through clicker. Having trouble keeping the bow on target. Have been using a push pull to get through the clicker. Just read a prior post where Arne said not to push with the bow arm. Would like some advice how to pull through the clicker, and still be able to keep the bow arm locked on target. Also would like Mr. Dave to add his thoughts. Have been shooting a clicker for about a year. The longer shots is where I seem to have the most trouble.

Rod,  In the system I advocate, the bow arm from sternum ( chest bone) to bow hand is STATIC!!  You do not move it.  So, the bow hand/bow stays on target.  THEN, the further retraction of the string shoulder PUSHES  the bow side towards the target which in turn activates the clicker.  Your string hand after setting your facial references (anchor) DOES NOT MOVE on your face.  You don't really pull through the clicker, your string side motion pushes the bow forward and the clicker activates.

One of those things that can be shown better than described.  I've said before and will again, MOST trad shooters use a clicker for the wrong reason and most often incorrectly.

Arne: Thanks for the timely reply. The reason that I shoot the clicker, is I shoot a lot of field archery, where I need a consistent draw. Do you know if there is a video out there that demonstrates the proper way to shoot the clicker.

No video that I am aware of.  It is such a small movement that I don't think a video would be very revealing.  This is best learned in person IMO.

You asked for my input too. The way Arne explained it above is what I try to do now. It explains the movement in a more complete way than I could have before I read his explanation for the first time. I always knew that if I didn't keep a solid bow arm, which feels like pushing to me, my shots spread out. But the important thing is that you bring your shoulders into alignment with the target. What Arne describes is doing that.  It feels like pushing to me, but if you just push without aligning your shoulders, you’re missing the point.
