Snuffer sharpening
« on: March 24, 2008, 07:26:00 PM »
I am humbled !!

With the help of JoeB and JC I gathered up the proper stuff to sharpen Snuffers with. I messed with WW's last year with a flat file and had limited luck. However with the Snuffer Tamer I was able to get a new Shuffer 160 sharp pretty quickly.. I mean sharp enough to hunt.  That is it will shave hair off my arm in one pass. This is probably old stuff to most as I've not messed with 3 blade heads ever until last year and didn't hunt with them because I could not get them as sharp as I'd like. However, these Snuffers are going to the woods with me this fall. I love the great 2 blade heads that are available and have had great luck with them over the years. I am anxious to give these Snuffers a try, got to cut a BIG hole . Don't have a clue as to how they would work on heavy game but I'm betting the deer I hunt won't slow them down too much..
                   Thanks guys,
                              Pat

This has worked for me in the past, although everyone has their own method:

5 strokes per side with SHARP, BIG file
7 strokes per side on ROUGH diamond stone
7 strokes per side on FINE diamond stone
7 strokes per side on 325? Grit Auto Sand Paper
7 strokes per side on 650? Grit Auto Sand Paper

Glue the sandpaper flat on a piece of 2x4, and use it like a stone. With this method I got mine scary sharp.

Pat, get some of that buffing compound and paste Joey uses....you'll see what sharp is

Hope to see what them big 160's will do to game this year.

Here's an 160 Snuffer entry hole on a medium sized doe from a year or so back....

Here's the exit....

She didn't go far but it made for an ugly field dressing job.  Not bad for a broadhead that won't penetrate according to the "new rules"!
