I read a couple of good reviews on the Galaxy bows. You can look them up on Lancaster Achery or 3Rivers web sites.

Galaxy has gotten some reviews on their products. If you want a bit fancier with a personal touch for a very respectable price i would look into the maddog prarie predator

I don't think you can beat Mike's Maddog bows for the price! If it were me, that's where I would go.

You sound a bit like me a couple of months ago. I am in the process of relearning some fundamentals and went down in poundage For less than a hundred I got a PSE Heritage Youth bow that I can upgrade limbs to higher poundage. For me it was money well spent. This particular bow comes in 62” aaaand 60”. If your not too fussy it is a recurve . Did I mention what fun it is ??

Omega Longbows is another great option. The Omega Imperial is offered between 60” and 70”. Like Maddog, you will get a great, custom longbow. The cost will be higher than a cheap factory bow, but lower than other similarly performing custom bows. Seems like no one ever has a bad thing to say about either Omega or Maddog.

Maddog Prairie Predator by Mike McCready. Quality bow built by a Quality man. Super nice guy, fast turnaround time. I admit I am not really a longbow guy but that bow is a shooter for sure.

I only have experience with the Galaxy line from Lancaster.....IMO super values with their stuff!!!
Also....regarding quality used bows....it seems like things are pretty slow for sellers....IMO there are some super deals on this site's used bow classifieds and on other sites as well....

I tried the Galaxy Ember from Lancaster in the longbow model. I was only shooting 40# but it was slower and had a lot of arc at 20-25 yards than my 40 and 42# Hill Big Five and Fred Anderson Skookum. I thought it would have better performance than they do since it has the hybrid RD limb configuration. I had read good reviews about it but my experience did not match those reviews which was unfortunate as I had planned to buy the bow at the Baltimore shoot so was a bit disappointed. If it were me looking for a budget longbow, I would check out the classifieds as above suggested.

I have 5 of the Galaxy longbows and cant say enough good about them , to my eye they are just as fast if not faster than my high end bows. When I get home next week I will shoot them across a chronograph I just bought and see what it says.

We chronographed my brothers Black Hunter longbow tonight(same as galaxy ember). 50lb @28" he draws 29" so 52/53lbs . He shots a 340 super Carbon with 100 grain insert and 175 grain point, total 550 grains. 6 shots all between 180-183 fps........they are not slow! My wife shoots the 40lb Black Hunter, they are awesome for the money.

My buddy has the Galaxy Ember both longbow and recurve and shot them along with several of the most well known top end bows. ( I won’t name names ) The Ember was either right with or just ahead ( few times well ahead ) of all the top known bows. He has a 27in draw and was shooting wood and carbon arrows that were 500-530gr.
I’m still at work and will do some chronograph shooting when I get home and see how mine do...

You don't mention your price limitation( what your able to spend) but I would suggest watching the classified section of this site and others. You might be surprised at what is available in your price range. Good luck with your search.
