« on: March 25, 2008, 01:00:00 PM »
can this be done? take 2 feathers that are diff. color and already chopped to shape. line them up side to side and cut both at the same time. put in clamp, apply tape and away you go!
i quess the essence of my question is do i really have to lay one splice on top of another feather?

thanks charlie

You can certainly do what youve asked about.Ive done it myself.I would recommend adding a small amount of adhesive where your two feathers join. Not always as pretty but a real time saver.

sure can be done!

It's as far as an impatient person like me will go!    :help:
Sometimes you'll have to fumble around a bit but finding matching pairs that stick together with their little fibre-hooks before fletching helps a lot.

have fun

I mark the clamp where I want to cut. Sometimes one mark, sometimes two marks on the clamp. It depends on how many splices I want per feather.
I put each feather in the clamp by itself and makes the cut(s).
I cut the amount I need, then assemble them one at a time onto the shaft.
Very simple.

Measure on a board from 0 to 6" in 1/4" or 1/5", or however you want.

Lay feather on the board and cut, do the same with the other feather. Take a emory board (finger nail file) and square of the ends so they butt up to each other.

Put in clamp and add glue or fletching tape. That's it, real easy.
