Ol' Ben - Questions

A friend of mine told me this past weekend that he noticed that the last time that he'd seen me that I was struggling with a longbow. He told me that I needed a "decent" one and gave me a Ben Pearson "Ol' Ben 5000" ASL 50# @ 28". While I am somewhat familiar with Pearson Archery, I am not familiar with this model. Can anyone tell me more about them? Their history, production time, value, etc...  I'm just interested in learning whatever I can about them. Thanks in advance!

I had one of these at one time and sold it. They are a Hill style longbow. Had trouble with hand shock. Other people don't have that problem maybe because they use a heavier arrow. I believe they were made around 1983 to 89 and were 70 inches and later years 68 inches. Sold mine for 150.00 which seems to be what they go for. In todays market maybe a little less.

Traded into an Old Ben from a neighbor.  It was 60 at 28.  Could only shoot 20 to 30 arrows at time with it.  I sent it to a bennefit auction for Lemont G. of the Footed Shaft.  I think it went for $100.

They're pretty harsh. You can find much better shooting longbows.
