It’s 2:00 am in the morning before I leave for bear hunting and I can’t sleep, so here I am.
This story started two years ago. A friend of mine was retiring and I suggested we go on a bear hunt . We found an affordable hunt in Ontario with Bear Creek Outfitters. Some guys from here were going and needed a couple more to fill the camp so we signed on and sent our deposits in.
Then life got complicated. My friend’s grandson became really sick and needed a liver transplant. He called me and told me he was not going to be able to go and while disappointment set in, I understood.
This past year my friend was diagnosed with untreatable cancer. It is slow growing, but it will eventually take him unless God intervenes.
So this spring Rob Jones called me and suggested I join them for another bear hunt. At first I said no, it just wasn’t good timing, plus I shot the bear of my life last year with Ryan at Manitoba Stickflingers. But, my wife overheard the conversation and said “ oh, just go, you may never get another chance to do it.” So I agreed
But then I got an idea . First I called Dusty at Bear Creek and asked if he would consider giving my friend credit for the previously lost deposit. He graciously said he would. Then I called said friend and asked if he was interested.
So lo and behold we are going hunting in about six hours. I can’t tell you how happy I am about this.
You won’t see too many photos from this hunt. I of course am shooting trad, but my friend has to use something else.
Mostly I just wanted to publicly thank Dusty for his generosity, but I thought it was a pretty good story anyway.
