Dumbo serving question
« on: September 01, 2018, 12:54:44 PM »
I dont remember which way do you wrap the center serving on, is it clockwise or counter clock.?  I have always wrapped the serving clockwise having the bow facing away from you.  I shoot right handed if that makes a diff.

i have done mine both ways, i dont know if it makes a difference, especially if you are using a braided serving.
never had one come undone, or loosen yet.

Somewhere along the line I learned to wrap serving the same direction as the string is twisted. This way if you add or take twists out of string, you are doing the same with the serving.

"the same direction as the string is twisted."  makes sense I'll check out my strings.  Rarely do I un twist. Normally I make a string just a smidgen longer then I put enough twist in it to get my brace height and leave enough twisting room for future stretch.  And I always pre stretch it with B-50.

You don't want to unwrap the serving as the string rolls off your finger so serve it so it tightens as it rolls off your fingers.   :dunno:

I've been making strings for 50 years.

I start the serving at the top above the nocking point position and wrap away from me, which is also the same direction the string is twisted.

I have never had a string serving come loose in those 50 years.

Mmmmm Pat says one thing Roy says another.   "unwrap the serving as the string rolls off your finger so serve it so it tightens"  this is what I always thought to be right, thats why I serve it clockwise and twist it clockwise.  That make sense.   :dunno:

It's been a long time since I've had a serving untwist on the string. Whether it's the direction of the serving or experience making my servings more secure I don't know. I now put about 10 wraps over each end.

No:)

Depends on which end of the bow you are looking at the string from as to cw or ccw.

Looking at the bow as you would be shooting it.

Then that is how i twist and serve my strings. Both are CW looking at bow as if shooting it.

Same as if looking down the string from the top limb.

I set brace buy pulling the bottom loop off the bow and twisting CCW. Soooo serving will go CCW looking at the lower part of the string. Now for a left hander you  may want to go the other way.

Yup, I adjust brace height the same way.

That's why I said it depends on which end of bow you look from.

Clockwise....with upper limb to my right, I serve away from me. This is the only way I've ever done it and I see no reason to change. :) Jawge

supposedly clockwise righthanded, counterclockwise lefthanded, although if done competently, who cares.  Will not come loose.

I never pay attention to which way I'm serving.  I double serve most of my skinny strings and wrap them opposite directions.  I put mine on tight and put a drop of super glue on each end.  I've never had one come loose or unwind.
