Gold Tip Traditional and Traditional XT shaft gpi difference

Hey guys I just picked up a dozen Gold Tip Traditional 500 shafts for my recurve. Upon looking them over and weighing them they came out to 8.9gpi which is a touch over their advertised 8.6gpi. Ok so 0.3gpi not a huge difference. The weird thing is I shoot their Traditional XT shaft in 600 spine for a couple of my longbows. The XT shaft is the same as the regular just straighter apparently. My 600 XT shafts are advertised at 7.8gpi but they actually scale out at 8.5gpi. Now the 0.7gpi difference in the XT is quite a bit. I’m curious if this is common with the XT shaft being heavier than advertised. Is there anyone else who has observed this gpi deffernce with the Gold Tip shafts? Who has a Traditional XT 500 shaft that they can weigh to check the actual gpi against advertised gpi? I know we are kind of splitting hairs here, it would only be a total of around 20gr difference in total arrow weight but I’m curious none the less.

I do not have any experience with the shafts you are asking about, but it sounds to me like typical GT quality control (or lack thereof)! I used to shoot GT XT Hunter black shafts. I quit shooting them because they were all over the place spine-wise. In any given dz .400 spins shafts there would be some as stiff as .310 or so, and as light as .390 or so, with the majority being in the .350-.370 range. Out of 10's of dz's of shafts I put thru a spine tester, I never had one that actually spined at .400!

I just weighed a 500 GT Traditional classic XT.  On the shaft it says 10.2 GPI. The shaft is cut to 30" and weighed 314 grains, or 10.46 GPI.

Thanks Kerry. Maybe I just got a couple batches of 600 XT’s that we’re out of spec. I have read numerous times about Gold Tip having problems with their quality control.

No Nock or insert, just a bare shaft.

20-30gr of weight variance is not a big deal, to me, but spine issues like Bisch points out is a problem.

I've had rough luck on consistency with the gt shafts in the past as well. I have had some from 1 dozen to the next the average weight was a good bit off and I've had probably more fliers bareshafting with gold tips than any other brand (Which as stated above was more than likely an inconsistent spine issue. Victory wasn't much better and durability was pretty poor. Now Easton and black eagle instincts have shot very well for me.
