Paul did you tirm your tab? Nearly all tab faces are oversized to allow for trimming to fit...and sometimes the unneeded material will slap the face on release.  Go slow and trim in small increments. Using baby powder on the tab face will soon show you when the string is coming off the face and GENERALLY you only need an 1/8'' pass.
