Several questions I can't find answers for...
« on: December 05, 2018, 03:13:40 PM »
I've built my first bow and naturally have the bug. The first turned out so nice that I want to build a "beater" for hunting. Here are my questions:

1) I've seen some really nice camo patterned bow limbs where it appears that they lay clear glass over some sort of material. What are people using?

2) Where can you buy G10 for I-beams and riser blocks?

3)Will phenolic work just as well for an I-beam?

4) What are people using for colored (orange, green, yellow. etc) accent stripes?

Any help will be much appreciated

Camo spectraply angle cut from Kenny M. for camo veneers. I think Big Jim has the G 10. Phenolic will work G 10 is better. Consineau sells single 10x 40 sheets about .060 in any color they make Spectraply
High on Archery.

Thanks for the reply. On the camo I knew about the spectraply stuff. I'm talking about actual camo patterns like woodland, asat or an old school realtree or mossy oak.

Maybe you seen limbs that were dipped into a camo film that was floating on a liquid. I forget the name of that process.

You can get, or have made printed rice paper, which will wet out with epoxy. Depending on the quality, it can look real good under clear glass. Surfboard and ski makers use it often.

Do you think that is what companies like Hoyt use?

That or something similar. You could use fabric or I suppose anything that will wet out. I've seen where people have images printed on thin laminating fabrics under epoxy. You would not want to use anything that would add too much thickness to the stack. I think the rice paper would be the best bet for a bow.
