Shoot through mesh on a Double Bull Blind

I just bought a new Double Bull blind. Kinda high dollar but... pay once, cry once. I have a 20 year old one from before Primos bought them. Shell is still good but the rods and hubs are toast. I also have one my wife hunts out of but this one is mine (so far).

What's the group consensus on shoot through mesh with a Trad. Bow? I shoot a well tuned 55lbs recurve and Woodsman braodheads. Anyone had trouble? Anyone had success?

I set it up today and brushed it in with clipped cedar trees. Looks OK I think. I have had other blinds there off and on and the deer seem to adjust according to my trail cam photos.

I know... I know... a brush blind is more natural looking and all that. As I get older though, it's nice to be out of the cold wind and occasional rain and snow. Also, snack time is less obtrusive to the hunt in an enclosed blind. I look forward to snack time in the woods almost as much as hunting... almost.

i have a double bull Matrix, i love it , and am right with you when it comes to features of it, i killed a doe shooting thru the netting, the only thing for me was the slight visual change in my mind, when shooting thru it, with that being said i had no flight problems at all., good luck

No trouble shooting through mine. I don't use it for turkeys, but I consider it a must for deer.

Every one of my own blinds has shoot thru mesh in the windows (although none are double bulls). I can’t count how many critters I have shot thru mesh. The only thing I have learned not to do is shoot at real hard angle to the mesh. If you do that, there is a decent chance your fletch could catch on the mesh and mess your shot up. The only negative to the  mesh I have found is that it robs you of about 10 minutes is shooting light at dusk and dawn. I LOVE the freedom of movement I get being behind the mesh!!!

Have experienced no issues over the years whether shooting thru the mesh of my 4 Double Bulls or the mesh I use on 7 other ground blinds.

I have also wonder about this subject.  I have had Double Bull blinds for a long time, but never shot through the netting.  I just couldn't make that first shot and cut up the netting.  So, far I have shot a BUNCH of turkeys from this blind, just by opening the windows.  The netting is not covering every window.  Guess I should bit the bullet and give it a try.

I never shoot through netting.  I wear black in the blind and have a black baklava so I never have an issue with getting busted from being seen.
My issue is it is too much of a vision impairment for me to deal with.

I missed a big Muley buck shooting through the mesh, arrow noticeably kicked on the shot. Took the mesh down and had does at 6-7 yds in front of me and they never paid attention to me. I have also shot pronghorn with no mesh. Haven’t tried it with whitetail. I won’t shoot through the screen again, man that was a nice buck.

You guys that shoot through the screen, is the screen stretched tight or somewhat loose?

I shoot through no problem.  But I think broadheads plays a big role in how clean it works.  I use woods and or other pyramid shaped broadheads(Snuffer's, VPA, hellrazors, etc).

My bow is well tuned.  The blades of the broadheads and a kiss of the feathers are all that touches that mesh. 

I make sure the mesh is tight.

Shooting a bow that is not cut past center, there is no way the arrow has straightened out by the time it hits the mesh. I have seen those super slow motion videos of the arrow flexing like crazy. This is why I think a loose mesh would have less impact on the arrow.

If your bow is well tuned, shooting thru the mesh works just fine. The only thing I have found that does not work is shooting at a real hard, severe angle to the mesh. In this case the fletching can catch on the netting as it passes thru and screw the shot up. I’ve even shot lots of critters with the string tracker thru the netting!!!!

Bisch...  that is certianly proof type pudding you have in those photos!

I shoot the Woodsman broadheads so that should work. I read somewhere after posting my question that two blades dont work quite as well. I will let everyone know how it goes. Was hoping to hunt in some rare Oklahoma snow this weekend... looks like its gonna be typical Oklahoma freezing rain. That's not as much fun.

Years ago when I got my first Double Bull blind I took it out and ruined the mesh target practicing through it with two blade broadheads.  It had the easily replaced mesh.   I just couldn't believe how well they shot through the mesh.  I almost felt like I shot better through the mesh than without it.  I managed to take a few turkeys with the standard size blind even with a 70" bow but everything had to be just right.  Later I traded it for the recurve model DB and it made shooting out of it much easier. 
No luck on deer.  They just pick it out when they are still out of my range.  I'm sure if I left it set up, they would eventually get used to it.

Gorden, my wife and I have shot lots of turkeys out of my old one and her DB Delux without mesh. Turkeys dont seem to have the same fear of "the black hole" that deer do. The spot I have this blind in sits where I had another smaller blind set up. There has been a blind sitting there moderately brushed in since the middle of October. I have a trail cam set up near by and they seem to have accepted it.

We will see how it goes!

Sounds like you have a good plan, Keith.  I have shot turkeys through the openings but usually just go ahead and shoot though the mesh.  For some reason, I'm more comfortable shooting though the mesh.  I feel like the turkeys have less chance of seeing me.  Good luck.
